By Karyssa D’Agostino SYRACUSE., N.Y. (NCC News) — Five hundred RVs, which carried around 1000 people from all over the country, rolled into Syracuse on Sept. 28. People from nine regions (including two Canadian regions) made the trip to the New York State Fairgrounds.
These 1000 people are members of the Newmar Kountry Klub, an exclusive 50-year-old RV club. Once a year they gather for their International Rally somewhere within their nine regions.
They’ve held the rally from Wyoming to Tampa and now Syracuse. Why of all places that they could have held it did they pick Syracuse? Besides the hiking trails, nature, rich historical seminars and great restaurants, Newmar’s International Directors Bob and Bonnie Krieger had other reasons for checking it out.
“Well I had heard they just put in about 400 new campsites,” said Krieger. “So we came up and made a site visit.”
These RV shows are usually closed off to members only, but Sept. 28 was the event’s “community day.” People from Syracuse or surrounding areas were invited to come checkout the RVs and vendors.
For regular members, attending this is a great opportunity for them to fix up their home on wheels or even look into upgrading. On display were the newest models of RVs that anyone could get a tour of or check out on their own.
Besides coming to check out the latest in the RV world, people come to connect. Whether reconnecting with old friends or spending quality family time together checking out the new locations, the biggest reason people come to these rally is the family camaraderie, Krieger explained.
Families who start as just normal club members can find roles within the Newmar Kountry Klub’s regional or international groups. Regional Directors for the east coast Bob and Jane Hadley have been club members since 2006.
“It’s just nice to have it in our region,” Hadley said. “Because lots of times people don’t travel to the west coast for the international rally.”
Newmar already has the location for 2020’s International Rally set. It will be held in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
