SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) —Election Day is here and one very special Syracuse tradition lives on. Our Lady of Pompei’s 74th annual Election Day Spaghetti Supper was held today from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
This supper is known to bring the community together. You can see all people gathering together, regardless of their political party affiliation. Many political candidates attend this event, so it would be a great time to learn about their platforms if you have not voted yet.
Long-time event volunteer James Robinson says “I mean for many people this is the place to be on election day. You see all the politicians come in and mingle with the people, it is great exposure for them.”
This event could also be viewed as encouragement to go out and vote, since there will be a delicious plate of pasta waiting for you at Our Lady of Pompei.
Voting is very important to local community members, as it is our civic duty. Voting has the power to impact major changes in our community. Voter Joseph Gotely says “You’ve been voting since you were eighteen years old. That’s when you could. Not seventeen, not sixteen, you can’t drink at eighteen but you can vote.”
The event is $12 for a single plate, $7 for kids, $60 for 1/2 tray, and $120 for a full tray. The proceeds of this fundraiser go towards their school, the Cathedral Academy at Pompei.
