SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — The state DOT plans on closing port of Interstate 81 in Syracuse beginning Monday night and continuing throughout the week.
The northbound lanes between exits 16A and 17 are set to close Monday evening from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. The northbound closures will continue through Thursday night.
Beginning on Thursday and lasting until Saturday morning, the southbound lanes will be closed from 7:30 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Detours will take drivers going north on I-81 to exit 16A, then to Rock Cut Road and Brighton Avenue. Traffic moving southbound on I-81 will use exit 17, which will take drivers to South Salina Street and Brighton Avenue, then to Route 11, before merging back onto I-81 south.
Crews will be working to remove steel bridge beams as they prepare for the demolition of the I-481 southbound ramp bridge. The project is a part of the multi billion dollar plan to remove the elevated highway through Syracuse.
