Jason Kimmel is a Junior at Syracuse University. He may seem like your typical college kid, but he is about to do something no student at SU has ever done before. This Friday, he will be performing the Jason Kimmel Showcase through the program JCM Exposed in Shemin Auditorium at the Schafer Art Building at S-U. It will be the first solo showcase of its kind in the history of the Syracuse University music program. Kimmel says his background in the a capella group Otto Tunes and the other connections he’s made has led him to this moment, and he’s happy that he is collaborating with his friends to make something special.
(“Bringing all these musicians together and like having a final product that I can be proud of hopefully is really the best part about this experience. Knowing that I can get some of my friends together, work together, and get some of my visions across while also getting some of their visions across to make this nice finished product is something that I’m really looking forward to.”)
Eric Thompson is Kimmel’s roommate, and the guitarist for the band FLOTUS. He will also be playing guitar for many of Kimmel’s songs throughout the night on Friday. He’s excited, and says that if anyone deserves this night, it’s Kimmel.(“He’s worked really hard to get to the point he is and especially in the Jazz Commercial Music Programs, so if there’s anyone to do this showcase for the first time, it’s Jason.”)
(“Leading up to it, yeah I was a little nervous knowing that this is my show, but at the same time, I know I have the support of them and the people around me. So, I’m really excited.”)
Expect a packed crowd in Shemin Auditorium on Friday. The show starts at seven, and admission is free. Kimmel will be backed by a number of talented musicians, and they will all be performing multiple songs from pretty much every genre. Break a leg Jason, this is Jack Price, N-C-C News.

I’m not loving you, the way I wanted to
What I had to do, had to run from you
I’m in love with you, but the vibe is wrong
And that haunted me, all the way home
So ya never know, never never know
Never know enough, til it’s over love
Til we lose control, system overload
Screaming no no no, no no
I’m not loving you, the way I wanted to
See I wanna move, but can’t escape from you
So I keep it low, keep a secret code
So everybody else don’t have to know
So keep ya love lockdown, ya love lockdown
Keeping ya love lockdown, ya love lockdown
Now keep ya love lockdown, ya love lockdown
Now keep ya love lockdown, you lose
I’m not loving you, way I wanted to
I can’t keep my cool, so I keep it true
I got something to lose, so I gotta move
I can’t keep myself, and still keep you too
So I keep in mind, when I’m on my own
Somewhere far from home, in the danger zone
How many times did it take til I finally got through
You lose, you lose
I’m not loving you, the way I wanted to
See I had to go, I had to move
No more wasting time, you can’t wait for life
Were just wasting time, wheres the finish line
So keep ya love lockdown, ya love lockdown
Keeping ya love lockdown, ya love lockdown
Now keep ya love lockdown, ya love lockdown
Now keep ya love lockdown, you lose
I’m not loving you, the way I wanted to
I bet no one knew, I got no one new
No I said I’m through, but got love for you
But I’m not loving you, the way I wanted to
Gotta keep it going, keep the loving going
Keep it on a roll, only god knows
If I’ll be with you, baby I’m confused
You choose, you choose
I’m not loving you, the way I wanted to
Way I wanna go, I don’t need you
I been down this road, too many times before
I’m not loving you, the way I wanted to
So keep ya love lockdown, ya love lockdown
Keeping ya love lockdown, ya love lockdown
Now keep ya love lockdown, ya love lockdown
Now keep ya love lockdown, you lose
