SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Summertime in the city is bringing people out of the house and to the streets. One of the places they’re visiting is the Downtown Farmers Market located at Clinton Square.
The market happens every Tuesday (with some exceptions) until Oct. 8, and it features seasonal produce, flowers, baked goods, plants and more. Farmers and growers across Central New York flock to the Syracuse to bring in local goods to the community.
While some might be against the idea of shopping at a farmer’s market because of the costs, farmer Jim Maryunik says it’s healthier.
“There’s a lot of adverse things that take place in a person’s body when you’re dealing with chemicals. So that’s why we do everything chemical free,” Maryunik said.
According to the Eat Right Pro Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, 60 percent of store bought food contains preservatives. Maryunik says that he wants to know what he’s feeding himself and his family.
“It cost me more money, but I’m raising something that my family’s going to eat, and I don’t have to worry about it,” Maryunik said.
