SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — A lively farmers market in Clinton Square provides a variety of foods and goods, which community members say is a benefit. Vendors offer fresh, locally grown produce, homemade baked goods, and handcrafted items, attracting residents and tourists alike.
The market fosters a sense of community by bringing people together, supporting local farmers, and encouraging sustainable practices. Vanessa Szwegbka said that shopping here enables customers to feel more connected with the farmers they’re purchasing from.
“What’s nice about having small markets like this is that people like you can talk to the vendors, and it’s a good way to kind of create an understanding of where our food comes from. And locally grown food is more nutritious. It’s typically cheaper so you can kind of learn more and have an appreciation for where food comes from,” said Szwegbka.
Live music and family-friendly activities create a vibrant atmosphere, making it a popular destination. Shoppers say the market not only promotes healthy eating habits but also stimulates the local economy, showcasing the region’s rich agricultural heritage. Frequent customer Ashley Desalbo said that shopping here contributes to her health.
“I always think it’s important to have an option that’s not just for grocery store. If you, you know, want something that maybe local or local or something a little more, I guess clean,” said DeSalbo.
