MANLIUS, N.Y. (NCC News) — The village of Manlius revealed a new welcoming sign featuring a logo of a swan.
Just months ago, the state Department of Environmental Conservation issued the village of Manlius a permit allowing them to keep their four iconic swans, however, the village can’t allow the swans to reproduce.
Last year, Faye the swan, who was the mother of four cygnets, was killed and eaten by a group of teenagers. The four cygnets were rescued from the Manlius Swan Pond in January. Later they were reintroduced to the pond but their father, Manny attacked them and he was relocated.
County officials and community members condemned the actions of the teenagers. Many shaken up by the situation and made the preservation of the swans a large focus in the village.
The sign comes as part of Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon’s and Onondaga County’s Municipal Grant program.
