SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) — A local town councilor’s initiative following a campaign fundraiser benefited local families yesterday.
Daniel Ciciarelli, Third Ward Councilor of the Town of Salina, donated 123 surplus meals to the Black Men United chapter of Syracuse. Ciciarelli encouraged supporters of his campaign to donate meals for a campaign event fundraiser held earlier this week. People unable to attend Ciciarelli’s fundraiser had their meals donated to Black Men United.
The organization holds a special place in Ciciarelli’s heart. “They have their pulse in a lot of different areas… the passion and vision they have to help their community… resonates with me and my own personal and family values,” Ciciarelli said.
Ciciarelli added his own personal touch to the meals donated. Local families appreciated the gesture. “I {donated} homemade sauce that I made with my grandma’s recipe,” Ciciarelli said. One man even offered up a trade, giving a “jar of homemade jam in exchange for the pasta sauce,” Ciciarelli said.
Ciciarelli is running in the upcoming New York State Assembly 128th District election. He is looking to defeat Democratic incumbent Pamela Hunter. The district includes the East and South side of the City of Syracuse, Salina, Dewitt, Nedrow, and the town of Onondaga. He hopes his kind act of good will resonate with local families and make himself a name to remember.
