The Musical ‘Grease’ Last Week of Shows in Syracuse The Musical 'Grease' Performs Last Week of Shows in Syracuse

The Covey Theater Company's ‘Grease’ hosts final four shows this weekend.

CENTRAL N-Y RESIDENTS ARE RUNNING OUT OF SUMMER NIGHTS TO SEE THE MUSICAL GREASE, PRESENTED BY THE COVEY THEATER COMPANY.

THE PRODUCTION WRAPS UP ITS TWO MONTH STAY AT THE ON-CENTER THIS WEEKEND.

COVEY THEATER BOARD PRESIDENT, GARRETT HEATER, SAYS THAT PICKING THIS SUMMER’S MUSICAL WAS AN EASY CHOICE.

“Grease hasn’t been done locally in around seven years. So we felt the time was right to go ahead and see if people would respond to it.”

THE INTERESTING SETUP OF THE THEATER ALLOWS THE AUDIENCE TO SIT ON THREE SIDES OF THE STAGE. HEATER SAYS IT’S GREAT TO BE CLOSE TO THE ACTION.

“This is the biggest cast we’ve ever had. So the dance numbers, like the big school dance, people were sitting in the front row have 20 extremely talented dancers performing. You could reach out and touch them.”

THEIR LAST FOUR SHOWS OF GREASE ARE THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY AT THE ON-CENTER.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The musical ‘Grease’ is ending its two month run in the Oncenter this weekend.

The Covey Theater Company, a registered nonprofit theater company, puts on multiple plays and musicals each year in Central New York. The Covey Theater Company Board President, Garrett Heater, wanted to mix it up for their summer musical.

“We find it’s important for the company to pick shows that have a broad appeal. Last year when we picked ‘Chicago’, that was a really good choice because a lot of people love that show. This year we didn’t want to stick with too dark of a theme, because ‘Chicago’ can get pretty dark, so we decided to go the completely opposite direction,” said Heater.

It had been twelve years since ‘Grease’ was performed in Syracuse. And now, the Covey Theater Company brings it back with their biggest cast ever, and “Sing-Along” shows where the audience can participate.

“We weren’t sure how it was going to go, and it was awesome. It was so reciprocal as far as the audience and the actors. It was a big hit, and people really enjoyed themselves,” said Heater.

The last four shows of ‘Grease’ are Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights in the Oncenter. The final show is Sunday at 2:00 P.M.
