By Saniya More SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – The Food and Drug Administration has approved a Ketamine derived drug to treat depression.
The drug is the first in a long series of previously banned drugs to get approval from the FDA. It comes in the form of a nasal spray.
Doctors who carried out the study hope the drug can be used to help the millions of people for whom current anti-depressants haven’t worked.
Because the drug is made from esketamine, a type of hallucinogen, the nasal spray bottles will have a black label, the FDA’s highest safety warning.
