By Mike Mulford (SYRACUSE, NY)– The City of Syracuse ranked in the top-20 of cities people are leaving, according to a report from Redfin, a real estate website.
Syracuse was listed at #19, behind cities like Knoxville, Detroit, Houston and Milwaukee. San Francisco and New York ranked #1 and #2, respectively.
While reasons for locals leaving are not clear, one in five New Yorkers are leaving the state because they are looking for warmer areas to live, according to Redfin.
Syracuse is one of the United States’ snowiest cities, averaging over 10-feet per year, according to weather.com.
However, the cost of living in Syracuse is relatively inexpensive, with home sales averaging $105,000, according to MoneyWise. Also, the unemployment rate has improved, with nearly 20-year low of 3.7 percent.
