Syracuse, NY (NCC News) — Governor Cuomo recently announced the expansion of JMA Wireless, which will provide around 100 new job opportunities in Syracuse. JMA Wireless is the only company in the United States that has the technology to develop and manufacture the fifth-generation cellular network. 5G will upload and download information faster than ever before.
Executive Director of Marketing, Sean Griffin, said JMA is the only company that has been able to successfully develop 5G.
”What no one has been able to do, and what we actually have done, because we’ve tested it and verified it, is develop 5G millimeter wave technology for in building,” Griffin said.
JMA is expanding because of the company’s success, as well as the rapid growth of the industry in general.
“As technologies progress, demand on networks and infrastructures are growing, so the carriers and other technology leaders need companies like JMA to provide them with the infrastructure to enable all these new technologies,” Griffin said. “Everything from autonomous vehicles, to IOT, to your cell phone working, or sharing videos on social media.”
He said JMA’s technology enables these networks to run faster.
The company headquarters is in Liverpool, but they will be renovating the former Coyne Textile building in Syracuse for the new employees. The building is located on Cortland Avenue.
“The jobs will vary, they’ll vary in ranges anywhere from manufacturing all the way through development and engineering, software engineering, Griffin said.”
JMA is working with local institutions such as CenterState CEO and SUNY EOC on workforce development programs to help train the new employees.
According to Griffin, JMA’s owner, Jason Mezzalingua is extremely passionate about the company’s presence in Syracuse.
“He has, and it’s instilled in us, a huge pride in Syracuse,” Griffin said. “Mezzalingua is very dedicated to Syracuse and that’s why it’s so exciting. And we’re helping develop and underdeveloped part of our city and we take a great pride in that.”
