Reporter: I’m Mackenzie Pearce reporting for N-C-C News. Here are the stories making news today, October twenty-second.
We’re two weeks out from election day across the nation and candidates are ramping up last minute campaign efforts. Syracuse’s councilor at large candidates held a community forum last night. Candidate Thomas Babilon says these forums are helpful in getting information out to the voters.

Thomas Babilon: “People don’t know who the candidates are, they don’t know who to vote for. A lot of people don’t know when the election is. I think it’s important to get the candidates’ views out there, to get them publicized. Let people know that there is an election coming up and these are the people that you have an opportunity to vote for. ”

Reporter: Don’t forget to head out to the polls on November fifth to make your vote count. But if you can’t New York is allowing early voting for the first time in history. Utica resident Catie Ryczek (RYE-Chick), says the change makes voting more convenient for residents around the state.

Catie Ryczek: “I think it’s amazing actually. I spent 10 years in North Carolina and they allow early voting and it makes it really easy for people who work and have kids to vote and not wait in line for hours.”

Reporter: It’s Remembrance Week at Syracuse University, where S-U will honor the students killed in the terrorist attack on Pan Am Flight one-‘oh’-three. Remembrance Scholars Julia Gregoire explains what this week is all about.

Julia Gregoire: “Random acts of kindness, or finding ways to do something different this week, just using that “Act Forward” piece that we really talk about and whatever way anybody sees fit.”

Reporter: Veganism seems to be a growing trend in Upstate New York. Strong Hearts Cafe co-owner Joel Capolongo (Kappa-long-oh) an animal rights activist says he’s found a better way to advocate for the animals.

Joel Capolongo: “I can honestly say that running a vegan restaurant has been the most effective form of activism I’ve ever done”

Reporter: Strong Hearts Cafe is located in Marshal Square Mall on Marshal Street in Syracuse.
The weather in Syracuse is looking gloomy this Tuesday, expecting a high of 61 and rain rolling in around 2 this afternoon continuing throughout the rest of the day.
