Syracuse Senators Seek To Change School Funding Syracuse Senators Seek To Change School Funding.

Senators are looking to change the Syracuse community.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Senator Rachel May met with a group of senators and experts earlier today to discuss the distribution of the Foundation Aid Formula to improve all school districts.

The Foundation Aid Formula was first put in place a little bit over a decade and this determines how much each district gets.

Senator May is concerned with the unbalanced distribution of the funds. Her experience as a politician and living in the Syracuse area prompted her to seek change

” In this hearing today it is to get a better grasp of what the formula does right and it doesn’t do right,” said May.

The goal of this meeting is to change the way the formula is distributed so that it can go into the areas that need assistance.

“What we can do with that money I think number one is to hire more teachers because of class sizes are getting large, also hire mental health support staff because they’re experiencing more anxiety and post- traumatic stress disorder,” said May.

Each district needs unique assistance and the state has to realize that. Senator May plans to meet the communities needs through greater equity in school financing.
