SYRACUSE, N.Y., (N.C.C NEWS) — For 85 years Green Hills Farms has provided fruits, veggies, quality meats. But who could forget everyone’s favorite, cookies? But they’re made a little more special. The cookies, cakes and other pastries sold in the Green Hills Farms bakery are made fresh from scratch and they’re a hit with customers. So much so that in her 30 years, Cindy Andrella said when she opens the doors, people are lined up at 6 a.m. to get their doughnuts. You don’t last 85 years in the grocery business for nothing, and its’ not only the bakery but the service they provide when you come in, that keep people lining up at the door.
When asked what separates Green Hills from the competition director of operations, Kevin Petrie, said,”We still consider ourselves a neighborhood market. So, we cater to our customers 100% of the time. We’ve never really tried to be something that we’re not. We still have a relationship with our customers. We recognize a majority of them. We talk to them as if they’re family.”
Petrie said he even met his wife at Green Hills when they were younger. Everything about Green Hills Farms screams family, neighborhood and compassion. Andrella said that from the first day she worked as a cashier, the people have always shown nothing but love. When she missed work due to injury, all she could think about was getting back to work and getting the people their sweets. Retirement never crossed her mind.
Petrie said the store will always maintain their attitude to satisfying their customers. It is that dedication to pleasing the customer that has kept Green Hills Farms going for 85 years. What started off as a farm stand, has now become a staple in Syracuse.
