SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – There were two goals at the forefront of the Syracuse Common Council’s public meeting Tuesday evening.
Councilor Joe Driscoll said he hoped residents left feeling informed on the environmental and economic impacts the new legislation will have on the city of Syracuse, and that residents had the chance to give their feedback on the ordinance.
Oceanna Fair, a Syracuse resident, started a lead advocacy group called “Families for Lead Freedom Now” after her brother and now granddaughter become poisoned from lead in her own home.
“We try to advocate for families. Helping them get the help that they need and getting them pointed in the right direction,” Fair said.
Fair believes some of the language in the ordinance needs to be changed to ensure the safety of the community, and she attended the meeting with this in mind.
“We want to make sure those changes are made so that our community is safe for everyone,” Fair said.
Another lead prevention meeting will be held on Monday, February 17th at 6:00 p.m.
