SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS)– While the pandemic has infected many people, it has also affected many peoples level of stress.
Students are finding news ways to hep eliminate stress.
Syracuse grad student, Marissa Thomas, she started her week with a Healthy Monday.
Healthy Monday’s is a national initiative that shares resources for individuals to start off the weak fresh
“Reading for administrative law I think is a healthy Monday for me, ” Thomas said.
Mary Kate lee, Program Coordinator for the Lerner Center of Public Health Promotion said research by John Hopkins shows Monday as a fresh start, and you are more willing to start a healthy behavior or stop a behavior better than on any other day of the week.
Along with starting off the week right, Thomas didn’t imagine that having a roommate during the pandemic would also be a way to eliminate stress.
“I did not expect a roommate to be as critical in this time,” Thomas said.
Thomas said their rooms are no longer an oasis were they can get away. There rooms have now turned into the workspace so it’s nice to be able to come out.
” It’s having someone to talk to, turned out to be a great destresser.” someone thats like hey let’s go something to eat, come watch tv, or come out of your room,” Thomas said.
Thomas and her roommate have also found another way to destress during the pandemic, by getting into the Christmas spirit early.
Just a few days from halloween and Thomas already has up her Christmas tree.
“Turning to Christmas spirit because the holly jolly time makes me happy and that actually has been a great destresser,” Thomas said.
Thomas said they do plan to get more, and that this is only the beginning.
