JOHNSON: I’m Colleen Johnson reporting for N-C-C News. Here are the stories making news today, October 20th. New Yorkers have multiple new regulations taking place soon. The first involves the ban on plastic bags that started this week. In some towns you can still pay five cents for a paper bag. Syracuse University sophomore Caroline Casey reacts to the law that was supposed to go into effect in March.
CASEY:I think it’s been a long time coming and I’m glad they finally announced it’s official.
JOHNSON:Ski resorts also got approval to reopen in November. This comes as a relief to S-U ski club member, sophomore Jack Hasset.
HASSET:This year especially being inside through all of quarantine, and the whole summer I was just thinking are the mountains going to be open, not really knowing what’s gonna happen. Still coming close to the winter and not knowing what’s going on.
JOHNSON:This year’s election has set a new record in Onondaga County for the number of registered voters. Resident Mary Ann Durantini believes this is because of the result of the last election.
DURANTINI:I think people are realizing that complicity and assuming that one candidate was going to win uh over the other the last time has woken people up to the fact that you can’t make assumptions like that.
JOHNSON:Today in Central New York, there will be showers throughout the day and night. For N-C-C News, I’m Colleen Johnson reporting. You can find full stories on our website, N-C-C-News-dot-Online-DOT-COM.
