In Onondaga County over 367,000 people are registered to vote. Of that number, 70% are active voters and it’s been that way for the past 6 years.

In Onondaga County alone, upwards of 274,000 citizens have voted in that time frame. This year, that number is the highest — 287,261

But during this years midterm election, it isn’t the average voter people are concerned about, its the millennial voter.

Nationally, millennial voter turn out has been significantly lower for the midterm elections in comparison to the presidential elections.

During midterms, around 25% of registered voters did not make their ways to the polls while for presidential elections that number is as low as 10%

So what does that mean for 24th district of New York?

So far it is projected that John Katko will win by about 12 points. But, if millennial hit the poll on Nov. 6, that can sway the election to the right or to the left.

In Onondaga County alone 367,073 people are registered to vote and of that number, 70 percent of them are active voters.

This year the county has seen the highest number of active voters — 287,261, but this is not an anomaly. Over the past six year, Onondaga County has seen upwards of 274,000 voters.

According to the 2015 Census, millennial outnumber baby boomers so candidates and supporters of both parties are looking towards the youth to influence votes.

But, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, millennial are not turning out to midterm elections like they do the presidential elections.

In 2010 and 2014 around around 25% of younger registered voters did not make their ways to the polls.

So far it is projected that John Katko will win by about 12 points. But, if millennial hit the poll on Nov. 6, that can sway the election to the right or to the left.
