CHAOS ENSUES IN THE DEMOCRATIC RACE IN THE SYRACUSE MAYORAL PRIMARY AS THE GRIPPING RACE BETWEEN MICHAEL GREENE AND KHALID BEY CONTINUES. ONONDAGA COUNTY ELECTION COMMISSIONER DUSTIN CZARNY SAYS THERE IS OFTEN LOW VOTER TURNOUT IN OFF YEAR ELECTIONS.
DUSTIN CZARNY: THERE COULD BE A ELECTION FATIGUE SETTING IN AFTER FOUR YEARS OF HYPER INTENSE PARTISAN ELECTIONS BUT THERE COULD JUST ALSO BE LOCAL RACES TEND TO DRAW LESS COVERAGE AND LESS MONEY FOR CAMPAIGNS.
SHOEMAKER: FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OVER A YEAR EXCITEMENT FILLS THE AIR AT SENIOR COMMUNITY CENTERS. PROGRAMS LIKE EXERCISE CLASSES AT THE BOB CECILE COMMUNITY CENTER HAVE SLOWLY BEEN RETURNING AS VACCINATION RATES RISE AND COVID-19 CASES DROP.
JACQUELINE HALLMON: I FELT WHAT THEY FELT. JUST SEEING THEM COMEBACK AND SEEING THEM, SOME PEOPLE CRIED, CAUSE THEY SAID THEY DID NOT HAVE ANYONE, AND JUST TO BE BACK AND DO SOME OF THE ACTIVITIES WE HAVE SOME OF THE PROGRAMS IT JUST MAKES US FEEL GOOD.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — The Democratic race in the Syracuse mayoral primary continues as Michael Greene and Khalid Bey face off. There has been a noticeable low voter turnout, which can be a result of off-year elections.
Programs at senior community centers have been returning for the first time in over a year. Centers like the Bob Cecile Community Center have been welcoming back exercise programs to seniors who have been craving interactions ever since COVID-19 hit the U.S.
