(SYRACUSE, N.Y. – NCC News) Onondaga County is holding booster shot clinics at the Oncenter for those with elevated risk of COVID-19. Those eligible includes people 65 and older and those over 18 with underlying medical conditions.
The first clinic was today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The second clinic will be Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The clinics are being held in conjunction with Kinney Drugs.
“[I got the third shot] to stay safe,” said Diana Yeager, a woman who lives in the Syracuse area.
The clinics are only for those who received the Pfizer vaccine, as that is the only shot currently approved for booster doses by the CDC and FDA. The shots are only available for those who have not received their first two doses in the past six months. The CDC and FDA recommend a third shot for all who are eligible.
Ryan McMahon, Onondaga County Executive, tweeted that over 400 booster shots were administered at the OnCenter today. The County and Kinney Drugs are expecting a similar number on Thursday. McMahon added that more county clinics will be announced in the near future.
Those interested must register for the clinics at the county’s website, ongov.net, or at the Kinney Drugs website. Syracuse residents can also get their booster shots at their doctors office, local pharmacies, and even the State Fairgrounds.
As of Sept. 29, there are about 293,000 fully vaccinated people in the county. The death toll from the pandemic in the county is 767.
