SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News)-To wrap-up Native American Heritage Month, the Syracuse University community is set to host a celebratory social dance in Sky Barn on Monday evening.
Throughout the month of November, SU has held over a dozen events to recognize the indigenous community in Central New York. Events included film screenings, art exhibits, and panel discussions.
Tonight’s event will feature guest speaker Regis Cook of the Mohawk nation and the Onondaga Singing Society.
The event will last from 5-8 p.m. A reception will follow the dance in addition to a tabling event with indigenous entrepreneurs.
As the month of festivities concludes, Assistant Director of the Native Student Program Regina Jones says she hopes students and faculty were able to learn and appreciate the rich traditions of Native Americans.
In a University newsletter, Jones added that the University community will continue to raise awareness over issues that impact indigenous peoples moving forward.
