MANLIUS, N.Y (NCC News) — Central New York has multiple school districts that have been making renovations to their buildings including Liverpool and the Syracuse City School District. Fayetteville-Manlius could be the next district to undergo renovations depending on next week’s vote. These renovations could start as early as spring of 2023.
Principal of Fayetteville-Manlius, Ray Kilmer, believes that school districts doing renovations are very routine.
“They’re [school districts] constantly looking at what are the upgrades that are needed for our facilities and putting out projects on a pretty regular basis,” Kilmer said.
The F-M High School was built in the early 1960s and has several necessary updates to make it a comfortable learning environment. One of the ideas in the proposal is to replace the original heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
“It’s kind of like preparing for two climates,” Senior Luke Davidson said when explaining what it was like switching between buildings for class.
Kilmer will host a meeting tonight that is open to the community that will discuss the $52 million proposal.
“This is an opportunity to put us, both myself, Dr. Tice, and Mr. Furlong in front of the community to try and help answer any question people might have before they go to the polls,” Kilmer said.
The project’s impact on taxpayers will also be explained at the meeting. The meeting is at 6:30 tonight, in the Fayetteville-Manlius High School auditorium.
