Zach: This is one thing people associate with winter. But this, is another. For many winter-sport enthusiasts, it’s time to hit the slopes.

Adam: “I think for me I’d be really interested in traveling a few hours with people to ski a little bit.”

Zach: SU Graduate Student Adam Sawyer is from Colorado, and let’s just say, he’s a big fan of the snow.

Adam: “You can play outside in it, you can ski in it, you can snowboard in it. It’s such a big part of my childhood.”

Zach: So, the hype is on and snow is on the ground, but this local ski area still hasn’t opened for the season and today’s snowfall actually isn’t helping them get started any earlier.

Bill: “Quite honestly, the snow that has come down has actually slowed us down.”

Zach: This is Bill Hane, the operations manager at Four Seasons Golf and Ski Center in Fayetteville. His team is still hard at work switching over to winter mode.

Bill: “Some of the equipment that we can use doesn’t really work so well in the snow, so we gotta do a lot more by hand.”

Zach: Despite the setback, Hane isn’t worried he is losing out on customers.

Bill: “So many people got other things going on on the weekend, which is when we’re primarily open anyway, that they don’t really come out a lot before Christmas.”

Zach: But for this SU student, if you’re an avid skier why wait to do it locally? There’s other, larger winter destinations.

Student: “I feel like they are used to the snow so if they ski, they are probably used to bigger stuff.”

Zach: Back at the Four Seasons, the staff just wants to get on with their preparations, and they are set to finally open on the week before Christmas. Reporting in Fayetteville, Zachary Levine, N-C-C News.
