Aaron Rothschild THE PARKING LOT OF WELLNOW ON ERIE BLVD IS QUIET WITH EMPTY WAITING ROOMS, BUT EXPECT THAT TO CHANGE.CNY HAS OPENED UP REGISTRATION FOR A SECOND BOOSTER SHOT TO PEOPLE OVER THE AGE OF 50. A FOURTH VACCINE WAS ONLY AVAILABL TO THOSE WITH COMPROMISED IMMUNE SYSTEMS BEFORE THE ANNOUNCEMENT. WHILE CASES HAVE DECREASED IN THE UNITED STATES A NEW STRAIN OF THE VIRUS IN EUROPE IS CAUSE FOR CONCERN. WHETHER OR NOT IT WILL BE MADE MANDATORY DOWN THE ROAD IS CURRENTLY UNKNOWN. I ASKED MICHAEL MCELROY HOW HE WOULD FEEL IF A SECOND BOOSTER WAS MADE MANDATORY.

AARON ROTHSCHILD I THEN VISITED AN URGENT CARE TO SEE WHAT EMPLOYEES THERE HAD TO SAY ABOUT INCOMING PATIENTS. EMPLOYEE LUKE MCCARTHY IS EXPECTING TO BE SETTING UP A TON OF VACCINE APPOINTMENTS FOR THOSE OVER 50.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Healthcare workers across central New York is ready to start distributing a second booster shot to people over the age of 50. It is a change from the former policy only allowing those who are severely immunocompromised to receive the shot. COVID-19 numbers are currently low in the area, but a new strain of the virus in Europe is causing some to worry. If the area reaches a point where another booster becomes mandatory, second year student Michael McElroy would not be happy.

“I sure hope not, but I see it as a possibility, when numbers start to rise in the winter. I really hope it is just treated as a flu-like disease, ” McElroy said.

An employee at WellNow on Erie Blvd.  Luke McCarthy, is expecting a wave of people to begin making appointments for their vaccine.

“I am expecting a lot of people to be getting the new vaccine once it is available,” says McCarthy.

There has been lots of controversy about being vaccinated. Being forced to receive  booster shots has left a sour taste in the mouths of many. If the county returns to a point where a second booster vaccine is mandatory to work, or attend school many expect this to once again become a highly controversial topic.

The second booster is currently only available to those over the age of 50.
