SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — The Carrier Dome is about to begin stage two of a multi-year renovation plan with a $45 million budget. Local taxpayers are kicking in almost half of the tab at $20 million. Renovations in stage two include adding backs to the seats in the upper level, making for more comfortable seating for all. It will also be improving the dome’s WIFI network to improve service within the dome.
Syracuse Alumni and football season ticket holder Doug Allen is looking forward to the renovations. He emphasized the positive impacts these renovations should have on the local economy.
“You need to look at what the university generates, and if you fill the stadium for a football game you got all the business making more money” Allen said.
Second year student Ethan Mitchell is a member of Otto’s Army, a student association on campus that is known for their rowdy student sections at games. Mitchell is most excited about the improved Wi-Fi.
“I am super happy about the Wi-Fi. That is one of the main problems I find in the dome, I lose connection, it should be really good for posting my pictures in the dome,” Mitchell said.
Stage two is expected to be completed just in time for the return of football season at Syracuse University.
