SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — A Season of Transformation begins this summer.

The Syracuse City Ballet will kick off its new season, a Season of Transformation, with their performance of Ballet by the Lake at the Inner Harbor Amphitheater.

This two-day outdoor performance will feature excerpts from Swan Lake, original choreography, and modern contemporary routines.

The studio is eager to get back to performances, and dancer Mary Coon is excited to begin her journey in Syracuse.

“I’m so excited for Ballet by the Lake, I think it’ll be great,” says Coon.

Coon spent years traveling and learning from ballet institutions across the country, studying in Philadelphia, PA and Sarasota, FL. After furthering her education, she returned to her hometown and joined the Syracuse City Ballet.

“There’s no greater joy than trying to bring some of this art form back to the heart of Syracuse and dancing here,” Coon says. “If I’m going to dance anywhere, I would love to give back to the Syracuse community what they gave to me when I was a young child here.”

The repertoire for this year includes Ballet by the Lake, then the studio moves indoors to the Oncenter Carrier Theater in Syracuse for their next four shows. They will perform the Firebird Suite, the Nutcracker, Cinderella, and Panacea, a documentary-ballet combination.

The studio received an outpour of support during the lockdown and in preparations for a return to stage performances. Artistic Director Caroline Sheridan is excited to launch this upcoming season and bring ballet back to the people of Syracuse.

“We’re really really excited to be back in the theater,” Sheridan says. “We’re gonna be back in the theater four times this season, which is four more times than 2020.”

Ballet by the Lake shows on August 20th and 21st, with a 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. show for both days.
