SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — Onondaga County is releasing a comprehensive county plan for the first time in over three decades.
Early next week, the office of the County Executive will release “Plan Onondaga,” a new comprehensive county plan. The new plan outlines goals and visions for the county in the coming years.
The County Executive, Ryan McMahon, first mentioned the plan earlier this month in his State of the County address.
Amid significant investment into the county from Micron and economic growth, there’s no better time to release the plan than now, says McMahon.
“Your plan is your roadmap to the future and really a blueprint for investment in neighborhoods. And certainly the timing couldn’t be better for our comprehensive plan to be complete and implemented as that roadmap moving forward.”
Though exact details have yet to be released, the plan will address five main areas: housing, agriculture, community mobility, quality of life, and greenways & blueways.
The plan will help inform decisions from a public policy standpoint, with input from stakeholders in the business community, neighborhoods, non-profit organizations, and other government partners.
“When you look at our plan, we’re really focused in on center driven development. We’re really looking in on bringing up the existing housing stock to the 21st century in some neighborhoods,” McMahon said. “We’re focused in on what mobility in our community looks like moving forward.”
Once the plan is released, it will be sent to the county legislature for adoption in late April.
