Syracuse, N.Y. (NCC News) — Ale N Angus Pub, located right by the OnCenter and the War Memorial in downtown Syracuse could almost be considered the New England Patriots or New York Yankees of burger joints in New York. Having won the New York Beef Council’s best burger award six times. And they’ve been nominated for the award once again. This year’s nomination being their bacon grilled cheese burger.
Matt Beach is the owner and general manager of Ale N Angus Pub, which has been open since 2005. Beach told me that after Ale N Angus won the award three times in a row with their power play burger, the New York Beef Council told him that he could either be a permanent judge in the best burger competition, or Ale N Angus could enter a new burger into the competition. Beach chose to enter new burgers into the competition, and Ale N Angus just kept winning.
“We created the beef on weck burger and that won, then we created the hot and smoky candied bacon burger and that won, then we created the holy smoker burger and that won,” said Beach. “And now here we are with the bacon grilled cheese burger.”
Voting is now open on the New York Beef Council’s website, where folks can vote for their favorite burger to move on to the next round. Once it is narrowed down to a final four burgers, those four goes before a panel of judges, who then decide which burger will be declared the winner.
And while it’s always great to be recognized for success with awards, head cook Brennen McCann told me that feedback from customers and community members is always a great thing to hear.
“Just seeing the smile on someone’s face when you bring out the food or just hearing someone pop back in the kitchen being ‘hey, love the food, it was great’ and just seeing any of the posts that anyone does on Facebook about how everything was,” said McCann. “It’s just great to hear.”
