Emami: Here are some of the top stories we’re following today at NCC News.

St. Jean: City council members are voting on the Syracuse rezoning. Today we bring in reporter Saral Khare to explain how the rezoning plan is meant to make housing more affordable, Saral.

Saral Khare: Thank you, Sammy. You’re absolutely right. The Syracuse rezoning plan will expand the type of housing in Syracuse, whether it’s accessory dwelling units or granny flats, or making a certain number of apartments in large complex buildings affordable for tenants who can’t afford them.

Emami: Okay, Saral, thank you.

St. Jean: We’ll bring in Laddie Springer, who spoke with a Syracuse basketball star on the CNY football academy.

Laddie Springer: Yeah, that’s right guys. So the event, it was on a four year or three year hiatus due to Covid and it is back for its 10th edition. Spoke to Eric Devendorf yesterday, who played at SU and played professionally for a number of years. And Michael Poirier the organizer of event. Just a really nice event for kids. Lots of professional athletes from Central New York, giving back to the community, teaching kids about football, drills, basketball and stuff of that nature. Should be a very nice event.

Emami: Michael Poirier, Michael Emami. I like the sound of that. All right. Well, Laddie Springer. Thank you very much. It sounds fascinating. All right, now we’re joined by Isabel Flores today for a look at the weather. Isabel.

Isabel Flores: Thanks Michael. And that’s right. Today’s 79 degrees here in Syracuse. It feels a little bit hotter at 80, but the humidity is at 60% and the heat index is at 81 degrees Fahrenheit.Right now, the chances of rain aren’t too high, but they are predicted to go up later this evening as we go into the weekend. Saturdays predicted to have showers, likely storms. And on Sunday, there’s also a chance of showers and storms, and the highest predicted to be 84 degrees and the low 68 degrees from now.
