The NYPD recently asked Google to get rid of a certain feature on Google’s navigation app Waze. The feature in question let’s drivers know where police officers are one the road. Police say it puts both officers and drivers at risk.
The way it works is drivers can pull up the Waze app, plug in their destination, and along the drive Waze will alert them when cops are nearby.
Police worry that if drivers know police are up ahead, that drivers will be more likely to engage in criminal activity. Google officials don’t agree, having said that they feel the app helps drivers be more careful and drive safer on the road.
