Jonathan Kinane: It’s Monday, July 31. I’m Jonathan Kinane reporting for N-C-C News. Here are the stories making headlines today. — Workers protested as Syracuse card marketplace T-C-G-Player officially integrated into eBay today. T-C-G-Player workers are in the midst of negotiating their first labor contract. T-C-G-Union Bargaining Committee Member Robert Guy says there is still work to do before the group gains recognition as e-Bay’s first union.
Robert Guy: “The problem is they’ve done a lot of flip flopping on whether or not they want to recognize our union. They want to recognize our union when it’s convenient for them to frame us as a blocker”
Kinane: Solvay Public Library is holding its first Comic Con as part of its summer reading program. Head of the comic con Brian Rowlands says that graphic novels are a great way to get kids into reading
Brian Rowlands: “The graphic novels are basically just chapter books now anyways. They’ve got pictures, but it’s dialogue, it’s reading, it’s the same grade level as a chapter book. Anything to get them reading”
Kinane: A new mural will be going up on the Pastime Athletic Club on the North side of Syracuse. Voters can choose from one of three designs. Monty Esposito is one of the artists in the running.
Monty Esposito: “Drive around and see that there is a need for these murals and this public art”
Kinane: Voting on the mural closes tomorrow
Kinane: Syracuse-area teens are getting a chance to rock out this summer. The Redhouse is hosting its 12th-annual R-O-C-K camp for young musicians. Program director Marguerite Mitchell says it’s an all-encompassing experience…
Marguerite Mitchell: “It’s all instruments, all music genres, and a fun community tour. So it’s really kind of blossomed.”
Kinane: A high of 76 with mostly sunny skies today. A chance of showers tonight with a low around 56. For N-C-C News, I’m Jonathan Kinane. You can find full stories on our website, N-C-C-News-Online-dot-com.
