SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Israel is at war with the terrorist group Hamas as fighting rages on in Gaza and Southern Israel. The war began after Hamas launched a surprise attack in which the terrorist group murdered over 1,000 Israelis in a display of sheer evil. In defense of itself, Israel has responded by declaring war on Hamas and targeting the terrorist group in Gaza with missiles.
In response to the tragedy in Israel, people across America are coming together to have rallies and vigils in support of the State and the Israeli people. Here at Syracuse University, a vigil is planned for tonight outside Hendrick’s Chapel.
Mia Gottesman, a freshman at SU, has worked with Chabad and Hillel at Syracuse to plan the event which is set to bring Jews and non-Jews here at Syracuse and in Central New York together to honor the victims and show solidarity with Israel as the war continues. In an interview with Gottesman, she said, “I thought that Syracuse wasn’t having anything yet and why not be the start of something that could be great.”
There will be speeches by several people including Gottesman herself as Central New Yorkers and Syracuse students are set to come together this evening. The vigil is set for 8 p.m.
