UTICA, N.Y.(NCC NEWS) — The renovation of Wynn Hospital in downtown Utica is complete. The hospital was partially funded through a grant of $300 million from the New York State Department of Health’s Health Care Facility Transformation Program. The renovation will help the increase bed capacity and support the care of 90,000 visits annually.
“This is an exciting day for the people of Utica and the region as we mark the next step forward in modern, accessible health care coverage for this community,” New York State Governor Kathy Hochul said. “The state-of-the-art facility is an investment in the well-being of the region and will ensure that every resident has access to critical medical services when they need it most.”
The cost for the entire project was $481.37 million. The new facility is on a 25-acre space and includes 702,000 square feet with 10 floors and 373 beds. New York State Department of Health Commissioner Dr. James V. McDonald thinks the renovation will only help future patients.
“With support from Governor Hochul and our Department’s Health Care Facility Transformation Program, the opening of this new hospital not only brings expanded medical services, enhanced patient engagement and greater access to high-quality health care, it’s also a part of a community renaissance that will continue to improve the health and well-being of all Mohawk Valley residents,” McDonald said.
The hospital will include separate elevator cores for patients, service workers and visitors to provide smoother movements throughout the entire facility.
