SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS)– The Northside of Syracuse is getting a new colorful addition to the wall of Pastime Athletic Club. What is now a brick red wall will soon be covered by a mural, and that art can be chosen by you.
There has been an ongoing vote to decide what artist will do the mural, it is based on pre-sketched images that give an idea to what design they want to present. The vote is down to three artists including, Monty Ses Esposito, Clove Flores, and Russel Mason. It closes Tuesday night.
Ses Esposito said there is a need for public art in this city, to boost morale.
“It’s been a challenge for quite a while here in Syracuse to kind of make people get it and understand the value of public art, murals, and what they can do for the community.”
Tomorrow’s Neighborhoods Today is the charitable organization that is funding this project and many others like it around the city. Their goal is to make this city a better place to live and an appealing place inside and out.
Ses Esposito has a similar goal. “I want them to take a few moments out of their busy day to reflect on the beauty of it, and hopefully they can forget about anything that’s going on, that’s complicated or that’s troubling,” he said.
Only residents who live, work, or own property within the Northside are eligible to vote. You can find more information on how to vote at Todaysneighborhoodstomorrow.org.
