DENVER, C.O. (NCC NEWS) – A major snowstorm hit Colorado Sunday to make it a snowy Halloween. The National Weather Service (NWS) reporting Denver received up to 8 inches of snow. Parts of the Colorado Rockies received almost two feet in places like Aspen and Vail.
This comes as ski resorts around Denver are getting set for the ski season. This most recent snowstorm helped get one Colorado Ski Resort, Arapahoe Basin, open for the season.
Arapahoe Basin Chief Operating Officer Alan Henceroth wrote on his blog, “Now that is a good way to start the season,” after the mountain received almost a foot of snow overnight Sunday morning.
The mountains were not the only area impacted by this early season snowstorm. Hundreds of flights were delayed and cancelled at Denver International Airport (DIA) as travelers tried to get home in time for Halloween. DIA reporting around 1,000 cancellations and thousands of delays.
For Sunday’s Denver Broncos game vs. Kansas City Chiefs, staff was able to clear up the field in time for the game. Thousands, including players, had to drive through the slippery snow to get to the stadium.
NWS upcoming forecast for Denver and the Rocky Mountains of Colorado does not include any snow in the next few days.
