Armed Forces Day Celebrated at the New York State Fair Armed Forces Day Celebrated at the New York State Fair

Alexandra King:
The New York State Fair is a time for fun, food, and music, but also a time to celebrate the people of New York. Armed Forces Day at the fair is an annual celebration of New Yorkers who are currently serving or have served in the military. Speakers, like Colonel John Cushing, recognized the important qualities of members of the military.

Cushing:
Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage.

Alexandra King:
Colonel Cushing is a United States Army Recruiter. He is always looking for the next group of soldiers who want to make a difference for their country. To him, New Yorkers are great people to serve in the military.

Cushing:
What I can say is that the people of New York are proud, tough, and brave. Encourage them to serve just like you have.

Alexandra King:
All five branches were represented in the audience of the opening ceremony, as active and past members were able to get into the fair for free with an ID. It was a special celebration for the people of New York and anyone in the Armed Forces. For NCC News, I’m Alexandra King.
