SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Auburn Community Hospital has responded to Cayuga County’s rise in COVID-19 cases by suspending visitation.
On Monday, Oct. 19, the hospital announced the change in policy, although there will be exceptions for specific cases. Visitation will be allowed for end-of-life care, children, women in labor, and patients with disabilities.
Cayuga County reported 24 new COVID cases in just three days last week. During the past month the county has experienced a dramatic surge in cases. Since mid-September, there have been 84 new cases. Cayuga County’s total new cases for the month of October is the highest figure the county has experienced since the start of the pandemic.
Along with the case increase, hospitals in the area have been dealing with an increase in hospitalizations. Thursday’s six hospitalizations mark the biggest single-day total for the county so far.
There has not been any indication of what the case threshold may need to be for the hospital to loosen the restrictions on visitation.
Auburn Community Hospital is the only hospital in Cayuga County.
