THE NOT AGAIN MOVEMENT LEADS THE HEADLINES ONCE AGAIN. TODAY IS MONDAY, NOVEMBER 18TH, AND THIS IS YOUR N-C-C NEWS BRIEFING. I’M JACK MCMULLEN.
PROTESTS CONTINUE AT THE BARNES CENTER AT THE ARCH ON SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY’S CAMPUS, FOLLOWING NUMEROUS HATE CRIMES ON CAMPUS OVER THE PAST TWO WEEKS. THE SIT IN AT S-U’S NEWEST BUILDING HAS SURPASSED 120 HOURS. THE HEADS OF THE #NOTAGAINSU MOVEMENT HAVE SET A TIME FOR UNIVERSITY CHANCELLOR KENT SYVERUD TO MEET THEIR DEMANDS. THEY’VE INVITED THE CHANCELLOR TO SPEAK AT 7:00 P-M ON WEDNESDAY IN HANDPICKS CHAPEL, EXTENDING THEIR FORMER DEADLINE BY TWO HOURS.
FIGUREHEADS IN SYRACUSE ATHLETICS HAVE RESPONDED TO THE MOVEMENT AS WELL. MEN’S BASKETBALL HEAD COACH JIM BOEHEIM STOPPED BY THE BARNES CENTER ON SATURDAY TO SPEAK WITH PROTESTORS. THE CONVERSATION CAME FOLLOWING HIS CONTROVERSIAL REMARKS AFTER A WIN OVER COLGATE LAST WEDNESDAY. THAT AFTERNOON, WOMEN’S BASKETBALL HEAD COACH QUENTIN HILLSMAN APPLAUDED THE WAY ADMINISTRATION HAS HANDLED THE EVENTS.
“And they do an excellent job of taking care of us and keeping us safe on our campus, and dealing with all issues. I leave them to do what they do. My job is to coach basketball and their job is to take care of us, and they do an excellent job of doing that.”
AND ORANGE FOOTBALL COACH DINO BABERS ADDRESSED THE SCENARIO FOLLOWING A 49-6 WIN OVER DUKE.
“It’s the news. There’s no doubt everybody’s talking about it.”
AND ON THE S-U CAMPUS, THE ALPHA CHI RHO FRATERNITY WAS SUSPENDED ON SUNDAY AFTER A RACIALLY BIAS INCIDENT. MEMBERS OF THE FRATERNITY WERE ALLEGEDLY VERBALLY HARASSING A BLACK WOMAN ON COLLEGE PLACE ON SATURDAY NIGHT. THE HARASSMENT INCLUDED A RACIAL SLUR. FOR N-C-C NEWS, I’M JACK MCMULLEN.
