Balter, Katko in Close Race as Election Day Nears Balter, Katko in Close Race as Election Day Nears

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – U.S. Representative John Katko and Syracuse Democrat Dana Balter are locked in a tight race heading into the final weeks of their campaigns for Congress, according to a Siena and Syracuse.com poll.

The poll shows Katko has become unfavorable amongst Central New Yorkers and has lost the support of some key independents after endorsing President Trump.

Katko is viewed unfavorably by about 49% of district voters while 39% are in favor of the current congressman.

The poll also indicates that Balter has not proven herself as a viable alternative to Katko. The former Syracuse University Professor has not been able to demonstrate this to independent voters, but having someone like Joe Biden at the top of the presidential ticket may help her.

Balter currently leads Katko 45%-42% among likely voters for the 24th Congressional District with only four weeks to go until Election Day.

Right now, it is looking like there is going to be another very close race. In the 2018 election, Katko defeated Balter by five points.
