Places for Syracuse students to exercise and stay healthy are not plenty. Brutal winters keep students inside and away from physical activity as does the lack of sufficient gyms on campus. The recent opening of the Barnes Center at the Arch changes that completely. Students like Joao DeGouveia are excited about the new complex.
“I’ll probably be spending more time there this winter than anywhere else.”
The facility has already welcomed thousands of students since its grand opening, confirming that the 50 million dollars put towards the complex was not a waste. The multi-floor weight room has been attracting the most students but with unique features like the Esports room and rock climbing wall, the complex is appealing to many different interests.
“The Barnes Center has basically everything I would need to stay active I’m pretty excited for it.”
The Barnes Center promised to be a better place for students to stay healthy, and so far, so good.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — The Barnes Center at The Arch has been a success to this point. Many students have filed into the $50 billion complex since its grand opening on September 13.
One of those students is Joao DeGouveia, 19, who is already voicing his excitement for the new complex.
“The Barnes Center has basically everything I would need to stay active I’m pretty excited for it.”
The complex is giving Syracuse University students a new and better way to stay healthy and fit. While the multi-floor weight room and gym attract the most people, there are other features that are useful such as the rock climbing wall, indoor pool and Esports room.
With Syracuse having bitter cold and long winters, the new complex gives students a nice and spacious indoor place to stay fit. DeGouveia will be one of those students.
