SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Tuesday morning the Vermont Independent and 2016 Democratic Party runner-up, Bernie Sanders, announced that he will be joining the presidential race again.
Syracuse University junior Sofia Tellechea says she is really pleased and excited about his announcement on running for president.
“I think it is a a very good decision. I am a liberal, I know he’s a liberal so I’m down for any candidate that is as liberal as well,” said Sofia.
Sanders, a far left-wing democrat, is within the better known politicians in college campuses. In 2016, his socialistic policies gathered a lot of attention among the younger generations.
However, with such a packed and competitive race, Syracuse University student Aarie Vann is not so sure that the support will be the same.
“I don’t know if he’ll get as much support among the older crowd, I think it’s going to be kind of similar to what happened in 2016 with Clinton getting a lot of the older people and Bernie getting a lot of the younger people,” Vann said.
The 77-year-old left-wing candidate faces a great challenge for the upcoming elections. Sanders will be running up against big contenders like Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris, among others.
