BREAKING: Syracuse University Reports New COVID Cases BREAKING: Syracuse University Reports New COVID Cases

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse University reported13 new cases of COVID-19 today.

In a statement made to students, faculty, staff, and parents, Vice-Chancellor J. Michael Haynie confirmed that the University has “identified an emerging cluster of positive COVID-19 cases” on campus. Haynie also said that the cluster “appears” to be caused by some “off-campus gatherings” and that there was a party off-campus at some point last week.

Haynie said that the school’s initial investigation points to students leaving Central New York to visit another college last week. He then asked students who went to an event in “an apartment complex on Walnut Avenue” to stay home and contact Syracuse’s COVID office.

“We are working closely with the Onondaga County Health Department to quickly identify and isolate all those potentially impacted and at risk because of this unfortunate series of events,” Haynie said.

The University’s COVID-19 Dashboard will not fully update until tomorrow’s weekly update. The dashboard is changed every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

This is an ongoing story and we’ll have more information as the story develops.
