Byrne Dairy sells Syracuse Milk Bottling Plant Byrne Dairy sells Syracuse Milk Bottling Plant

By Brendan Mortensen, SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) — Byrne Dairy announced on Monday that it will be selling its Syracuse based fresh milk bottling plant. The sale also includes its direct-store delivery option.

The purchasing company is Upstate Niagara Cooperative Inc., which is a dairy cooperative based in Buffalo. The sale does not include any of the other Byrne Dairy warehouses in the area, including plants in Cortlandville, Syracuse, and Dewitt.

Byrne is granting Upstate Niagara a license to package fresh milk under the Byrne Dairy name. There are about 250 people that currently work in this sector for Byrne, and Upstate is expected to retain all of the current employees.

Representatives from Byrne say that they will continue to invest in their remaining facilities, such as a new expansion in their Dewitt based extended shelf-life plant.

Finalization of the sale is expected to occur before December 1st.
