CAZENOVIA, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) – In Central New York, there are creative people all around, but one spot in particular has it all.
At Cazenovia Artisans, members create high-quality arts and crafts, offering items to gift, wear, and decorate homes. With all the bright lights and colors, members are always excited to work at the gallery.
“It keeps me inspired. I come in and it makes me so happy to open up the shop and see what’s new here,” said Barbara Decker, a member of Cazenovia Artisans.
With bottle caps turned into jewelry and old cans made into robots, artists at Cazenovia prove just how big sustainability can be with homemade goods.
Decker uses old silk cloth from thrift stores to create new outfits.
“So I’m making new silk cloth, it’s 100% silk cloth out of the old silk cloth,” said Decker.
Barbara’s not the only artist who is sustainable with her homemade goods. At Cazenovia Artisans, sustainable skincare is also another passion.
Nancy Lee is the president of Balsam Rose Soap Co. and works alongside her husband in creating their own handcrafted skincare products. She believes protecting future generations must involve exactly what products we’re using.
“I started to look at what we put on our skin because we absorb 60% of what we put on our skin into our bodies so that’s how we started looking at natural skincare,” said Lee. “I think we have to pay attention to the way we use products for the future of our children.”
Not only does Cazenovia Artisans incorporate sustainability into their works but they also provide a community of artists where members can learn and appreciate art from one another.
“Where there is more than one person, you learn a lot,” said Lee.
