SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC News) – Usually the Central New York Food Bank is handing out donations to those in need. Today, however, they were on the receiving end. The Dunkin’ Joy in Childhood Foundation presented them with a $50,000 grant. Even though the foundation didn’t make an announcement beforehand, the grant didn’t totally shock Food Bank’s Chief Development Officer Lynn Hy. “Some idea, but I wasn’t sure that’s what this was about today because the Joy in Childhood Foundation you actually have to apply through their grant system, but we did not receive confirmation that that grant had been awarded to us. Until now when they handed us the check.”
According to Dunkin’ business consultant Timothy Bricault, the CNY Food Bank was an obvious choice to receive the grant. “It directly aligns with the Dunkin’ Joy Foundation, helping sick and hungry children. It gives right back to local communities.”
Hy couldn’t have been happier with the foundation’s contributions. “A $50,000 grant from the Joy in Childhood Foundation and Dunkin’ is going to do so much.” Hy added this grant is going specifically help provide food for children in the Syracuse City School District. Kids in need will receive meals during the weekend in addition to school breaks.
