Saturday the New York State Fairgrounds will have a little change of pace. Normally, they play host to the Great New York State fair, but this weekend they will host the CNY Food Truck Battle.
The Battle will have more than 35 food trucks giving out samples ranging in price between $3 and $5 along with craft beer, craft merchandise, and live music.
The community of food truck owners within the Central New York area has a very good relationship with each other. Owner of PB&J’s Lunchbox Pat Orr explained this connection with you.
“We try to all work together and plan so that you know if you are doing the same event you’re not doing the same items and stuff so we try to mix it up so that people get a good variety and make it so it’s different each time,” she said.
This seems like a consensus within the community. “You know everybody helps each other out, everybody shares each other’s posts on social media and everybody roots each other on. Honestly, I didn’t think that was going to be the case coming into this but everybody’s been great,” said Food Rescue Food Truck owner Susan Bolton.
The camaraderie within owning a food truck is something that seems to continue to come up as well. Food Rescue Food Truck owner Jerry Bolton said that it is nice to be able to connect with the community when he is working at his truck. He gets to know people who come back and become continued customers.
The food truck industry has been one that has been affected in almost a positive way within the COVID pandemic. When restaurants were closed and people could not go out, food trucks would set up and people were able to stay away from doing the kitchen work to make a homemade meal, and got it through supporting a local business.
Tickets for Saturday’s battle are available online here for $5.
