SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Central New York restaurants got a huge surprise recently, as Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that restaurants in this region are allowed to resume outdoor dining under phase two of the reopening plan for COVID-19.
Although outdoor dining is now allowed, there are still restrictions that businesses have to follow in order to help ensure the safety of their employees and their customers. These restrictions are as follows:
- Customers must wear masks to and from their seats
- All employees and staff must wear masks at all times
- Tables must be set at least six feet apart to follow social distancing measures
The Limp Lizard is just one of the restaurants in Central New York that is looking forward to reopening for outdoor dining. Nick Ford, the general manager of the restaurant, said the community has greatly impacted the restaurant during this difficult time.
“We really had full support from the community right away,” Ford said. “Us being a local business, it made them want to come out and support us during this difficult time, whether it was pickup or delivery.”
Ford also touched on what the Limp Lizard has been doing in order to give back to the community.
“We tried to give back to the essential workers,” Ford said. “We served over 4,000 meals to the front line workers, whether it was at hospitals or all around the community. We even had a food truck in the neighborhood.”
Restaurant owners and customers aren’t the only ones who are happy about this big step. Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon has been pushing for this for quite some time now.
“These restaurants have been facing a big decision on whether or not to stay open or closed,” McMahon said. “We have to support our local mom and pop shop restaurants and let’s get them back up and running within these next few weeks.”
It has been nearly three months since residents in Central New York have been able to go out to eat at their favorite restaurants. Indoor dining will begin at the start of phase three, but this is a huge step for these businesses and their customers.
