DREW VONSCIO: WE TAKE YOU NOW TO DEWIIT TO FIND OUT HOW THE CNY WATERCOLOR SOCIETY HAS BONDED THROUGH ART.
VONSCIO: THE CNY WATERCOLOR SOCIETY HOSTED AN OPENING RECEPTION FOR ITS JURIED SHOW ON SUNDAY. THIS RECEPTION BROUGHT ARTISTS TOGETHER FROM THE COMMUNITY. KATHRYN WEHRUNG SAYS WATERCOLORS DIFFERENTIATE THEMSELVES FROM OTHER PAINTING STYLES BY ALLOWING YOU TO FOCUS ON THE MEANING OF THE ART.
KATHRYN WEHRUNG: “It gives you such a smooth, flowy, like the sky, the clouds, the ocean. You capture the essence of things rather than where oil really defines detail.”
VONSCIO: THE WATERCOLOR SOCIETY DATES BACK TO FEBRUARY 1982 AND HOSTS MULTIPLE SHOWS AND EXHIBITIONS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.
IN THIS YEAR’S JURIED SHOW, ARTISTS HAD THEIR WORK JUDGED BY AWARD-WINNING WATERCOLOR ARTIST MICHAEL HOLTER. ARTIST AND TREASURER DRAYTON JONES SAYS IT’S WHAT MAKES THE WATERCOLOR SOCIETY UNIQUE.
DRAYTON JONES: “You get chances to exhibit your work that you wouldn’t have otherwise and see people and meet people that I wouldn’t meet otherwise. And socialize with all of our artists really.”
VONSCIO: FOR KAREN HARRIS, THIS SENSE COMMUNITY HELPED HER CHOOSE THE CNY WATERCOLOR SOCIETY OVER OTHER ART GROUPS.
KAREN HARRIS: “It just worked out fabulously cause I’ve made a lot of art friends, people that I never would have met in a million years. And I just love the competitiveness of it. It’s really fun.”
VONSCIO: A GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT WAS ONCE STRANGERS… BUT NOW FEELS LIKE A FAMILY THAT SHARES A COMMON BOND OF WATERCOLOR PAINTING.
VONSCIO: NOW, ARTWORK FOR THE JURIED SHOW IS ON DISPLAY AT THE LE MOYNE COLLEGE LIBRARY UNTIL AUGUST 15TH. ARTISTS OF ALL AGES ARE ABLE TO JOIN THE WATERCOLOR SOCIETY.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCC NEWS) – The Central New York Watercolor Society hosted its opening reception on Sunday for its summer juried show at the Noreen Reale Falcone Library.
This exhibit promoted the artwork of CNY Watercolor Society members that submitted their best pieces to be selected for the show. Award-winning artist Michael Holter decided which paintings made it into the show and which of the paintings would receive awards. Shows like these help to make the Watercolor Society special.
“You get chances to exhibit your work that you wouldn’t have otherwise and see people and meet people that I wouldn’t meet otherwise,” said Watercolor Society treasurer Drayton Jones. “And socialize with all of our artists really.”
Members of the Watercolor Society said they felt a sense of community. It helped Karen Harris decide which art group she claimed as hers.
“It just worked out fabulously cause I’ve made a lot of friends, people that I never would have met in a million years,” said Harris. “And I just love the competitiveness of it. It’s really fun.”
Watercolor Society President Kathryn Wehrung noted that watercolors are different than other styles of painting. That difference goes beyond the process of putting paint on the brush.

The Central New York Watercolor Society Juried Show will be on display at the Noreen Reale Falcone Library until August 15 for those in the local area to view.
