MATTHEW KIBBY:’Play the Game, Read the Story’ in Syracuse is trying to get gamers back in person to play a variety of board games.

Store manager Patrick Sackett says that even avid online gamers want to get away from the monitors to play with others who have a passion for non-screen games.

PATRICK SACKETT: Whilst I don’t think it’s going away, I think that any chance people will go out and play a
game in store, they will. They’ll take that over online gaming.

KIBBY: One of the events is put on once a month by the Salt City Meeples as a B-Y-O-B or bring your own boards and Sackett says it is unique

SACKETT: Pretty much everyone that comes will bring a handful of games. Some people will bring
quite, quite a lot, like I’ll see em hauling in bags.

KIBBY: The store also has a game board library that anyone can use for these events or to even test out games on their own. The events are open to anyone from enthusiasts to hobbyist Matthew Kibby, N-C-C News.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (NCCNews) — As online games have taken over the gaming world, Play the Game, Read the Story in Syracuse is trying to get gamers back in person to play a variety of board games.

Store manager Patrick Sackett said that even avid online gamers want to get away from the monitors to play with others who have a passion for non-screen games.

“Whilst I don’t think it’s going away, I think that any chance people will go out and play a game in store, they will. They’ll take that over online gaming,” Sackett said.

One of the events is put on once a month by the Salt City Meeples as a BYOB, or bring your own boards. Sackett said that the event is unique.

“Pretty much everyone that comes will bring a handful of games,” Sackett said. “Some people will bring quite a lot, like I’ll see them hauling in bags.”

The store also has a game board library that anyone can use for these events or to even test out games on their own. All of the events are open to anyone from enthusiasts to hobbyist.

The store operates out of two locations one at 689 N. Clinton St. and the other inside Destiny USA.

If that is not enough for your board game fix, the store even travels hosting an event every Wednesday with Salt City Meeples at Full Boar Craft Brewery in North Syracuse.

The goal of all these events is to help bring the game board community back together after being stuck online for so long.
